The Bulgarian module for extinguishing forest fires has been sent to Greece
The first group of twenty firefighters from the Bulgarian "Module for ground extinguishing of forest fires using vehicles" left today for Greece to help fight forest fires in our southern neighbor, reports BTA.
The module was sent from Blagoevgrad by the director of the Main Directorate "Fire Safety and Protection of the Population", Chief Commissioner Alexander Jartov.
For the third year in a row, we are participating in the initiative of the European Commission to pre-deploy teams in countries that are exposed to a higher risk of forest and field fires, Chief Commissioner Zhartov.
He indicated that the Bulgarian team will be stationed at the airport in Thessaloniki, and the first group will remain in Greece until the middle of next month, when they will be rotated with another 20 employees.
At the moment, the sending of the module is more of a preventive nature, although the fires started relatively early in Greece, noted ch. Commissioner Zhartov. The module includes firefighters from the directorates in Blagoevgrad, Kyustendil, Lovech, Dobrich, from the Metropolitan Directorate "Fire Safety and Protection of the Population".
There are also two representatives of the Metropolitan Municipality in the module, and for the first time we are doing this interaction together, from the point of view of sending our module abroad structured in this way, the director of DG PBZN also said.
The teams are also leaving with equipment - two fire trucks and a pickup truck, which was received last year, financed with funds from the European Commission and intended for the module for extinguishing forest fires, said Chief. Commissioner Zhartov.
Last year, when the biggest fire in Europe happened, our guys worked together with the Greek colleagues. Ths is actually their appreciation for trusting our staff to be able to work with them in the most difficult and most dangerous places, pointed out Ch. Commissioner Alexander Jartov in connection with the participation of Bulgarian teams in extinguishing the fire near Alexandroupolis.
Regarding the accumulated experience and the work of the Bulgarian module, the inspector in the Fourth RSPBZN Nikolay Marinov, who is going to Greece with the module, said that last year the Bulgarian firefighters dealt with many accidents.
In the second redeployment, when there was a big fire in the area of Alexandroupolis, there were quite a few settlements that we had to evacuate, there were people who were in danger, their homes too, and I think we did an excellent job and showed quite good qualities of the Bulgarian fire department, he said Inspector Marinov.
The team also includes firefighters, for whom this is their first mission in our southern neighbor. Among them is the head of the "Fire-fighting and rescue activity" group in RDBPZN - Dobrich, senior inspector Kaloyan Mladenov.
He told reporters that the first goal is to get to know the rules of the base they will be in, as well as the specific tasks.
The situation there is not easy, there is too much heat, fires, which is why we are going to help our colleagues from Greece, and most importantly - to present Bulgaria in a proper way, senior inspector Mladenov pointed out.
For the first time this year, employees of the Metropolitan Municipality are included in the module. Our employees are in two groups - in the first there are two, in the next two more will go, they will act in a team together with our forest firefighters, the director of the "Emergency Assistance and Prevention" Directorate at the SO Krasimir Dimitrov told journalists.
A course has already been held for the employees of the directorate of the Directorate of Public Safety and Security. They have also passed various courses, they are rescuers by profession, they are well equipped and now they will go together with the teams to carry out this mission, Dimitrov pointed out.
